Saturday, April 30 marks the final concert for CU Winds in Bailey Hall for this season. The Wind Ensemble is thrilled to be performing the premiere of Steven Bryant’s Cello Concerto with guest artist, Caroline Stinson and Steven Stucky’s brilliant work for solo cello and wind orchestra, Voyages. Also featured on the concert will be the premiere of Beyond the Veil by Jesse Jones, featuring guest solo sopranos, Judith Kellock, Patrice Pastore, and Jamie Jordan. Beyond the Veil is one of a series of works commissioned by Cynthia Johnston Turner that “pushes the boundaries of what a wind ensemble can sound like.” Said CJT, “this is one of the bravest pieces I’ve seen in a long time.” The Wind Symphony will be performing two masterworks for band, Orient et Occident by Saint-Saens and Chester by William Schuman. Steven Bryant’s Chester Leaps In, a clever, hilarious parody of the Schuman work will also be performed.

A pre-concert, informal talk will be hosted by the conductor, Caroline Stinson, and composers Bryant and Jones before the performance in the Green Room at Bailey Hall. The talk is at 7:30pm. The performance is at 8:00pm.
